Kai Althoff

28 July – 10 September 2025

Kai Althoff was born in 1966 in Cologne, Germany.

He grew up there as well.

He paints a lot and makes music.

His work also consists of films, environments of sorts and performances.

This, his second show in Italy, will bear three paintings and custom-made partition walls, used to display photographs that emphasize in detail the tricky, delicate, sometimes thorny, difficult and questionable beauty which is embedded in the paintings’ execution and content. Additionally, it seems to trust a representational use of the photograph, as much as it belies its functional use as such representation. As many show “excerpts’, it is even the more thrilling to him to think that one will never see the whole ever again!

Further there is a dog house and a planter by Willi Guhl. An invitation to live! And a weaving to obscure the sea’s view, that is to challenge the waves and wind with man-made frustration.

And finally, two drawings, apparently of the same subject. The solid form of the base of a column? And the reflection of a sky, that is normative in its repeating elements it cannot recreate without error, time and time again.
